在欧洲杯B组小组赛第2轮，意大利0-1负于西班牙。全场比赛意大利被对手压制，只有1次射正，而西班牙全场20次射门其中9次射正。

场边的斯帕莱蒂教练在上半场比赛时非常生气地大喊：“必须拿球，这样不行！告诉若日尼奥，他必须拿到球，必须处于比赛的中心位置。”但若日尼奥显然没有做到，中场休息后他就被斯帕莱蒂换下。
